Update!
Wow, I haven’t made a real post here in a long time… Time to catch up!
Since this time last year, I have:
found a job working for VCH
paid off my student loans, all $25,000 of it and it feels GOOD
become poor (see above)
realized that photography and video editing are better as hobbies for me
had it pointed out to me that I’m a hermit and a recluse (need to change this)

Way beyond tipsy...
Haha, so I discovered a few things about myself last night:
I have a 3-4 drinks limit.
I like drinking whiskey with coke.
I can still speak clearly and coherently while drunk.
I can still behave myself while drunk.
I’m somehow still able to button up my PJs properly, even though I don’t remember it at all.
It’ll be a while before I get that drunk again… I think...
Savings = Independence
I need a job/career, and soon. I want to have more control of my life.

Crunch Time
It’s the around the halfway point at school now, and I’m really starting to feel it. Because of the Olympic break, my program is ending 2 weeks later than usual and I can feel the pressure mounting. I had a mid-term on the day classes resumed and there will be one exam or another to write every week until finals, which is near the end of April. I’m not really looking forward to...

Up yours Mastercard, UP YOURS.
I’ve haven’t made a late payment on my credit card bill in 8 years. In December, I was 2 days late. Mastercard is now charging me 3 months worth of interest in order to “clear the interest” and put my account back in good standing.
I hate you, Mastercard.

Sticky fingers
Today at work, I caught a kid trying to steal a video game. He couldn’t have been more than 13 or 14-years-old. But there he was, crouched down in the PS3 aisle, stuffing a game into his oversized hoodie.
I went up to him and asked if I could help him with something. All he managed to get out was, “uh..no…”, while chewing on his bag of candy. Maybe he didn’t think he...
Why you don't talk to people on the bus...
My classmate told me about something that happened to her friend last summer:
Her friend’s parents have a pet golden retriever and he was quite geriatric. Her parents were going on an extended trip so they asked her to watch the dog while they were away. They mentioned that since the dog is so old, there’s a chance he might pass away while they’re on their trip. If that were to...

Mr. Know-It-All
Customer: Do you have any copies of the blu-ray for the movie "The Hangover"?
Me: Let's take a look. *rummage through blu-ray section* It looks like we don't have any, I'm sorry.
Customer: I know you have it. It's a new release.
Me: *rummage through new releases* I'm sorry, we might be sold out. All our blu-rays are out on the shelves. Do you know exactly when it was released?
Customer: ...What, are you new or something? That's impossible.
Me: (O_o) Yes, I'm new. Let's look it up on the computer. *type-type* Oh, here it is. It's says the release date is DECEMBER 15TH.
Customer: December 15th....Well, are you going to have it on that day? I want it for the price that it's listed on the website.
Me: (seriously....)

Snap Happy
I’ve been thinking about getting a new digital camera. My family owns a Canon Powershot S50, but the thing is a beast to carry around as a point-and-shoot. I’ve been really satisfied with the performance of the S50 so I was happy to find out that Canon recently revived its S-series with the release of the Powershot S90. It’s shaved off some of the weight and size from the S50.

Suck it up, princess.
Just overhead my dad talking to my sister about what time he should drive her to work (she’s a high school teacher). Excuse me? She gets to have a ride to work? It only takes her 30 minutes to get there by transit, how come she gets special treatment? I have to carry a heavy school bag too; I have to transit over an hour to get to school, don’t see me complaining. Getting pretty tired...

Designing Self-Esteem
I found a really interesting-looking business card on Sunday. It was very clean and well designed; it reminded me of the one that Ray made for his school stationary project. For some reason, it dawned on me that I could articulate WHY it looked good.
I’m well aware that I studied design in school. I felt happy that I could actually put into words, why the business card looked good. It was...

"No soup for you!!!"
Ray called me a grammar Nazi today. I sometimes pick on his use of words, so it was fair enough. Nevertheless, I seem to have a growing list of pet peeves that pertain to grammar. I’m not saying that I have perfect grammar, I definitely don’t. What bothers me is when I hear people making grammatical errors that they should have learned to avoid, back in elementary. The most recent ones...

Twins!
Have you and a significant other/good friend ever dressed alike… by accident? Or you wear matching colours? Awkward… It happens to me sometimes and I find it hilarious. It’s like you’re sharing a brain…or you’re just around each other too much. I had one of those days this past weekend; it was monochrome stripes day!
What’s even more strange are the...

A Rock and a Hard Place
So… question:
What do you do when there’s an issue with someone you know; where by telling them about the problem could cause a ripple effect and disrupt others? Do you say nothing at all and kind of hope it goes away?

Some psychology today...
Watched some of ‘The Dr. Oz Show’ just now. He has a psychologist on the show as a guest and she said something interesting:
“Trying, is a form of not doing anything.”
She went on to explain that when people say that they will ‘try’ to do something, he/she is building the possibility of failure into their intention. It makes it more likely that the effort will...

Today.
Needed a bit of a breather today. Went to the mall for some tea and also ended up getting a staple-free stapler. I’ve been meaning to buy one for a while. It works like a regular stapler, but punches a hole into the paper and folds it over to hold them in place. I always thought that traditional staplers were sort of wasteful. I found this stapler at Chapters and forked out the $7 for it. A...

The job hunt continues...
So, it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve started really concentrating on finding a part-time job. I haven’t heard back from any of the companies, except for Shaw. I don’t think it really counts though; they just called to get some more information about my resumé. They said that they’ll be in touch in 2-4 weeks if they’re interested.
I considered applying to...

An Entrepreneurial Spirit
I’ve never considered myself the type to go out and start my own business. There can be so much risk involved. But, that doesn’t stop me from thinking about it:
For the past little while, I’ve been thinking about what it would be like if I opened up my own café. I’ve even got Ray thinking about it, haha. I guess I kind of started thinking about it when Ray introduced me to...

One step forward, one step back?
Eeek, never thought I’d have to experience this again.
I’m into the third week of my Medical Assistant program at Capilano and I can already feel the squeeze on my savings. Because I’m still in the process of repaying my student loan, a sizable chunk of change is taken from me every month. In light of that, I sat down to crunch some numbers the other day and I came to this...

This Week's Class
Some things my ‘Organizational Behaviour’ instructor told the class this week:
Never dismiss someone’s feelings or concerns, especially by saying “Why are you so worried about it?” …etc.
Approach/respond to behaviour according to the context in which it occurs.
People tend to underestimate the external factors of someone’s situation and overestimate the...

Some Good Ol' Home Cooking
Over the past few years, I’ve had more and more fun, cooking. I enjoy making desserts more, but it’s also fun to prepare main dishes. One slight problem though, is that I live at home. Having 7 people in the house doesn’t exactly lend itself well to experimenting with food, especially when not many are prepared to try something new. Plus, I can be notoriously slow when I try new...

Power Pigs
Today was a pretty busy day. I had to do some paint touch-ups on the front door, volunteered at the baby clinic for 3 hours and went to buy my backpack for school (boo). Of all places to have a “huh, how ‘bout that?” moment… London Drugs. While I was standing in the checkout line, I noticed this:
It was so weird, I had to buy it.

Birthdays
I find birthdays to be a funny thing. When you’re young, most kids tend to make a bigger deal of it; with the hoopla of a big celebration. But I guess it is more important when you’re younger since there are more milestones to reach. And I guess the parents like to make a big deal of it? Anyone want to answer that actually? I don’t really know because I never had any birthday...
Art & Copy →
While browsing through some movie trailers, I came upon this interesting looking one for a documentary called Art & Copy. It talks about inspiration and advertising from some of the most well known minds in the business. This particular blurb caught my attention:
All they cared about was milking money out of clients. “How big do you want the logo, sir?”
Looks like someone wants some...
Rain! Boots!
With the huge downpour that Metro Vancouver had earlier today, I began to think about the inevitable rainy season that’ll be descending on the city in a couple of months. Vancouver’s known for its rain, so I wondered why I’ve never owned a decent pair of rainboots. They’re big business in the city, especially now that they come with all different kinds of designs and prints...
Pet Names
I’ve never had a pet before, so I’ve always wondered what I would name it if I had one. This topic came up last night when I was talking with Ray and it resulted in a very entertaining conversation. :D
I was telling him about a GlobalTV BC segment that I had watched last week; the weather person was saying how she had adopted a dog from the SPCA and changed its name. It’s...
